"There is a difference between a book of two hundred pages from the very beginning, and a book of two hundred pages which is the result of an original eight hundred pages. The six hundred are there. Only you don't see them."

Read to the Dogs Program

We now have two Read to the Dogs teams here at Sherwood. Tucker and his human handler Randy, and Christopher and his human handler Christina are at the library alternate Saturdays and would love to have you read to them. With two different teams, you now have twice the opportunity to Read to the Dogs! Sign up for a half hour session to practice your reading AND make a new friend.

Randy and Tucker

Christina and Christopher

This innovative program sponsored by Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital pairs young readers with trained dog-and-handler teams. The program helps children develop their reading skills by offering them a relaxed, non-judgmental environment in which to practice reading aloud. In this program, only the dogs may make corrections... and they never offer to.

Reading aloud to dogs:
Increases enthusiasm for reading
Develops reading skills
Teaches children how to interact with animals
Promotes confidence

Each participant receives a certificate and a photo with Tucker or Christopher.
Take a peak at some photos of Tucker, Christopher and friends.

Call the Sherwood Library at 503-625-6688 and sign up now.
