About your card and account
Patron responsibility
This card also comes with some responsibilities.
- You are responsible for returning all materials on time.
- You are responsible for lost and damaged materials.
- If you lose your library card CALL US IMMEDIATELY! You are responsible for all fines and fees placed on your card prior to the time you notify us.
A patron's signature on the library card indicates agreement to comply with the current Sherwood Library Board policies and the current loan periods and limits. TREAT YOUR CARD WITH RESPECT. IT IS YOUR CREDIT CARD FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS!
Password
The default password for your card is the last 4 digits of the main phone number you provided when you got your card (try your home phone number.) You can change this password in person or by logging into your library account.
Card updating and expiration
Every two years the library will ask to verify your current address and phone number with the same identification required to obtain a library card.
It is the cardholder's responsibility to notify the library of changes to contact information.
If a card is unused for three years and has no outstanding fees, it will deleted.
Out-of-county users
Residents of Clackamas, Clark, Hood River, Klickitat, Multnomah, or Skamania counties are eligible for services because of a reciprocal borrowing agreement Washington County libraries have with these counties. The same identification will be required as listed above for Washington County residents. The WCCLS library card may be used at all public libraries in Washington County.
All Washington County public libraries, including the Sherwood Public Library, issue library cards for nonresidents. For residents of all other counties, the cost for a library card is $70.00 per year per household. (This is the average cost paid in taxes by a Washington County household for library service.)
Lost CardsIn accepting a library card, the cardholder assumes responsibility for charges incurred in accordance with check-out policies of Washington County Cooperative Library Services. Loss, theft, or possible unauthorized use of this WCCLS card must be reported to a WCCLS library immediately.
Lending information & loan periods
Fines and Fees
Late fees accrue at $.15 per day per item, except for DVDS which accrue at $1.00 per day. Fines begin on the day after the due date.
Fees and/or fines in excess of $9.99 will result in suspension of borrowing privileges at all WCCLS libraries. This suspension remains in effect until the amount owed is less than $10.00.
Households with overdue materials will be notified on the 5th day following the date due. Bills for replacement will be sent 25 days after the original due date. Fees will be charged for lost materials and items that are damaged. There is a $5.00 processing fee added to the cost of each replacement item.
The Sherwood Public Library, and all WCCLS libraries, submit accounts in excess of $50.00 in fees to a collections agency.
Loan Periods and Limits
Most library materials, including books, periodicals, books on tape, books on CD, kits, CDs, CD ROMs, and videocassettes check out for a period of three weeks. DVDs check out for one week. A total of 100 items may be out simultaneously, but only 25 music CDs and DVDs at a time. At Sherwood Public Library, we ask that you only borrow 5 of our DVDs at a time so that other patrons will have a good selection to choose from.
Renewals
You can renew items 4 ways:
- Online through the WCCLS website. Sign into your Library Account and click on the Items Out tab. Select the items to renew by checking the boxes next to each, then click Renew Selected Items at the bottom of the page. Don't forget to Log Out when you're done.
- Telephone Renewal. Call (503 846-3245) to hear library and account information, and to renew items by telephone. You will need your library card number and password.
- By phone. Just call Sherwood Public Library at 503-625-6688 or any Washington County Library and ask to renew your items out. Please have your library card number handy.
- In person. Just come in to the library with your library card and ask to renew the items.
Most items can be renewed twice after the initial check-out. You do not need to bring the items with you. If you are unable to renew items online, there may be a block on your account, a hold on the items or other limitation on the items concerned. For more information, call the library during open hours and speak to a staff member.
Requests/Reserves
Materials may be reserved at no cost system-wide on most circulating titles. Notification of reserved materials will be by email or by telephone. Items may be ordered for and picked up at any of the libraries in Washington County. If the requested materials are not found in this county, it may be possible to locate and obtain them from another library system.
A card is required for picking up items on hold. The library protects the privacy of its card holder. If a family member is picking up an item which is on hold for another family member, they must have the library card or library card number of the family member who has the item on hold.
Access to Library Account Information
Any access to your account is granted only on presentation of your library card or ID with your correct address on it. The use of a card by any other person is at the sole discretion of the card-holder. For your privacy, access will only be granted to those who present a valid library card, photo ID for the account being accessed, or family members who have the card number of other family members written on their card.
All circulation records of patrons including children are deemed private by Oregon State law [ORS 192.502].
If you have other questions or comments about this site or the library in general, please send us your feedback. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you at the Library!
