Computer/ Internet Use Policy
Computer and Internet Use Policy
Sherwood Public Library strives to meet the needs of the future while preserving traditional library services and practices.
As part of this goal and to fulfill our commitment to provide equal access to information and resources, the Library is pleased to offer public access to the Internet.
Because we want patrons to use the Internet responsibly, we are asking that all Internet users read and agree to these guidelines.
Access to Information
Information and resources on the Internet can enhance the Library’s existing collection in size and depth. The Library, however, can not monitor the Internet or exercise control over the information accessed through the Internet. Not all sites on the Internet provide accurate, complete, or current information and access points change rapidly and unpredictably. Some sites may carry information that a patron will find controversial or inappropriate. Library users access the Internet at their own discretion.
Internet resources accessible through the Library are provided equally to all patrons. As with all materials in the Library, any restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the sole responsibility of the parent or guardian, not the Library or its staff. Parents and guardians are advised to supervise their children’s Internet sessions.
Internet Use and Assistance
Staff will attempt to assist users with their Internet use but cannot offer personal instruction. Formal instruction may be offered by the Library at designated times. Current materials about the Internet are available in the Library’s collection.
Guidelines
- Internet users are expected to have a basic knowledge of how to operate a computer.
- Internet access is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
- If all Internet terminals are in use, patrons must add their library card number to the reservation computer station.
- Each patron is allowed one hour of time at the Internet workstation per day.
- Using another person’s library card for access is not allowed.
- Only one or two persons may be seated at the terminal at a time.
- Printing costs 10 cents a page. You have the choice to pay-per-page or, for added convenience, you may deposit up to $10.00 to your account for printing costs.
- Library staff will attempt to assist patrons in the proper use of the Internet, but not all staff members will be able to give complete assistance.
- Patrons are expected to respect the staff, rules, and equipment associated with Internet access. Those who violate these rules will be subject to loss of their Internet privileges.
- The Library staff is authorized to interrupt or disconnect any Internet session.
